In 1960 he was invited to become a founder member of the Rotary Club of East Brighton,. and until his death Rotary International formed a large part of his and my mother’s lives. He devoted much time to their various worthy causes. In 1962 he became President of the East Brighton Club and later became the District Governor, in these various capacities he attended both National and International Conferences. They formed many lasting friendships, in particular with their twinned clubs in France and Holland. He was made a Paul Harris Fellow in recognition of his work.
In 1965 they moved from 112 Hollingbury Park Avenue to live with Dorcas’s parents at 58 Stanford Avenue Brighton. Here he inherited a larger garden and developed a wonderful area of soft fruit and vegetables, together with floral displays in both front and rear gardens
In 1987 as the result of the house and garden at Stanford Avenue becoming too much to manage they decided to move to a smaller property and garden and moved to 3 Overhill Gardens Brighton. Here he continued to be active in all his hobbies and pastimes up until his death in 1997.
