A search of the archives identified that Thomas’s wife Joice was employed in the garden during 1814.
The week of 5 September 1814 she was employed in the Shubbery, clearing borders, mowing grass and watering. She received the sum of 6 shillings for her weeks work (30p). At this time she had seven children and it would appear that she only worked half a week as the majority of workers received 15 shillings.
For the week of the 1st October she received the sum of only three shillings (15p).
Following the death of the 6th Earl the 7th Earl was only 4 years old when he inherited the estate and during his minority the Estate records where lost and further details of the Dyson involvement on the estate has also been lost.
I have searched wage books for 1866 but these only relate to house employees and not garden employees, and no Dyson’s were employed in the house
